Eyes Are the Key to the Soul (and the Ego Too)
How much of your day is influenced by unconscious looking?
Your eyes are for seeing, and they are choosing what to see.
That one truth changes everything.
Most people do not realise how much energy passes through the eyes each day. Eye contact is not just polite or social. It is an energetic exchange, a power transfer and a choice. The moment we lock eyes with someone, we either enter their world or we invite them into ours.
This is the mirror Jesus pointed to when he said the eye is the lamp of the body. What we let in, becomes us
When we bring awareness to the eyes, we start to notice how much of our day is influenced by unconscious looking. The glance, the stare, the way we scan rooms or streets or strangers, all of that can be reclaimed.
We do not always need to stare. We do not always need to respond, we can choose.
Here is a practice I give my clients and use in my own day. Imagine you are walking down the road with a protective energy field around you. Two meters in all directions. Your safe zone. As people walk past you, stay within your energy. Keep your eyes focused on your path and focus on you breath.
Then notice, who tries to pull your attention? What sounds or movements make you want to look? What do you feel when you choose to stay present?
You will begin to see how powerful your energy becomes when you choose where your eyes go. The ego is like a toddler screaming ‘Look at me!’ It wants attention, it interrupts and tries to put on a performance
It seeks attention, it makes noise and it wants to be seen. When you do not engage, you see it more clearly. And when you do choose to make eye contact, you do it from awareness instead of reaction.
This is a powerful way to simplify life. The eyes lead, awareness follows. The stare can either feed your ego or fuel your truth.
Let us break it down:
Eyes of the Body — the physical seeing
Eyes of the Mind — the social engagement, the ego exchange
Eyes of the Soul — the witness, the observer, the one who chooses
When you move through your day as the soul, you start to take ownership of your gaze. You begin to protect your stare. You realise the power of giving someone your full attention. And you also realise how much energy you lose when you give it away too freely.
This changes how you walk into a coffee shop, how you train at the gym, how you sit in a waiting room. It gives you authority over your own presence.
And there is more.
The stare, when used with love and intention, can change lives. I have experienced this. In 2020, during the first lockdown, I entered a deep connection with myself. Spirit was present in a way I had never felt before. I was mentoring someone on a coaching course and invited him into a meditation. We sat in silence and stared into each others eyes. There was nothing else, just presence.
The moment became sacred. You could feel the soul. There was a stillness that changed both of us. Even the moon light moved across his face in that moment, almost like a sign. When he came out of the stare, he said he had surrendered. He said he felt free. That is the power of the eyes when aligned with the soul.
You can test this in your own way. Set an intention to walk through a crowded space — a gym, a market, a train station — and keep your eyes focused ahead. Do not scan. Do not look for anything. Just flow in the zone. You will feel the difference.
And when you do choose to engage, do it with meaning. Look someone in the eyes and say thank you. Hold their gaze and stay soft. et your stare say what your words have not said
Your eyes are sacred and your stare carries so much truth. When used with care, it opens hearts.
So next time you feel the pull to look, check in. Ask yourself is this reaction or love? Is this consumption or connection?
Because the eyes are the key to the soul. And every day, they are choosing what to see.
I invite you to give one of these exercises a go as it brings instant awareness and I would love to find out what you noticed.
